Pedro Burmester

Born in Porto, studied with Helena Costa, Sequeira Costa, Leon Fleisher and Dmitry Paperno, having also attended  masterclasses with Karl Engel, Vladimir Ashkenazi, T. Nikolaieva and E. Leonskaja.

Mr. Burmester was awarded prizes in international competitions such as the Second Prize at the Vianna da Motta Competition and a special award at the Van Cliburn Competition.

He performed at illustrious piano festivals such as La Roque d’ Anthéron, Salle Gaveau, Festival de Flandres, Frick Collection,  92nd Y in NY , na Koln Phirlarmonie, Gewandhaus Leipzig,  Beethoven Haus in Bonn and Amsterdam Concertgebouw, performing also as a soloist with renowned orchestras under Georg Solti, Leopold Hager, Baldur Brӧnnimann, Peter Rundel and Frans Brüggen, amongst many others.


As a recording artist, he has recorded 10 albums, both solo and with orchestra.In 1999 he recorded the complete cycle of the Beethoven Violin Sonatas with the violinist Gerardo Ribeiro.


He was the Artistic Director of Casa da Musica, Porto, a project he helped implement.

Pedro Burmester is currently an active soloist and teaches at Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espectáculo (ESMAE), Porto.
