A joining of two energies— music and technology.

Pianist-composer Mariel Mayz, and Javascript engineer and generative artist Taylor Baldwin, come together for a multimedia performance to engage the senses. Mariel Mayz, the curator of Porto Pianofest’s New Music Series, will be performing original piano works as well as works by Fazil Say, Clarice Assad, and John Adams. Concurrently, Taylor Baldwin (Uber, New York Times, BuzzFeed) has developed a new software for this collaborative performance, which will project computer-generated artwork based on the sound frequency produced by the piano, all in the starry, open-air space of the Universidade do Porto’s Reitoria courtyard. Overall, this event will combine image and sound in a world-premiere partnership.

PROGRAM:

J.S. Bach Partita No.6 in E minor
F. Liszt Sonata in B minor

International, virtuoso pianist and Porto Pianofest director Nuno Marques performs a solo recital at the exquisite Arab Room of the Palácio da Bolsa. In this one-of-a-kind setting, Nuno Marques will present a program of two monumental works of the piano canon— Bach’s Partita No.6 and the Liszt Sonata. Both works are known for their remarkable melodies, technical trials, and extraordinary display of the human experience. This concert will be a brilliant conclusion to the 2021 season of the festival.

Due to limited venue capacity, this event will be presented as a gala fundraiser. All concert proceeds will go towards the Porto Pianofest organization and continuation of the festival mission in Portugal and abroad.
