Jean-Christophe Melançon was born and raised in Montreal. He began his piano studies at the age of seven. At the age of 24, he is already establishing himself as a great soloist. He performed in numerous halls such as Place des Arts, Chapelle Historique du Bon-Pasteur, Gesù theatre, Pierre Mercure Hall and numerous churches and Conservatories across the province of Quebec. In august 2022, he had the chance to perform in Gijòn, Spain. Jean-Christophe has won awards from numerous national, provincial, and local competitions. He was one of the 10 semi-finalists at the 2022 edition of the OSM piano competition and his performance got him the Public’s choice award and the Young public’s prize.
Jean-Christophe is a recipient of numerous scholarships from the National Bank of Canada, Canimex, the Montreal Conservatory Foundation, the University of Montreal and Les Jeunesses Musicales du Canada. He likes to share his passion by playing and teaching the younger generation, but also by offering free recitals at numerous senior residences in Montreal.
His rich musical background includes singing in one of the most renowned boys' choirs in North America for almost 10 years and learning composition and jazz improvisation. Jean-Christophe received both his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree with “distinction” from the Montreal Conservatory, where he studied with Richard Raymond from 2015 to 2022. Jean-Christophe is currently pursuing a professional diploma at the University of Montreal with Henry Kramer.
